This guide covers only 50 approved representative cities in China. It is not a complete set of Chinese cities and does not publish a fixed 1–50 ranking, a composite liveability score, or a winner.
The material helps people understand climate differences and trade-offs between selected cities. It is not for neighbourhood-level siting, medical advice, property decisions, or investment decisions.
What is currently included
The current public material uses quality-reviewed, city-level observed background and is in Beta. It covers 12 available indicators through city profiles, comparisons of two to four cities, and explicit condition-based filtering.
Each indicator keeps its own time basis: long-term climate background uses 1991–2020; summer change covers 1991–2025; outdoor heat-stress background covers 2020–2024; UV background covers 2016–2025; elevation is a representative static city summary.

Ways to use the tool
- Read the seasonal and annual climate profile for an approved city.
- Compare like-for-like indicators, key differences, and necessary limitations across two to four cities.
- Filter the bounded candidate pool using temperature, precipitation, UV, or elevation conditions that the user explicitly chooses, then see why cities match or do not match.
- Explore change and distributions for a user-selected group of cities; relationships do not establish causation.
Important reading limits
- City-level indicators support macro comparison. They are not neighbourhood, housing, or live-weather forecasts.
- Indicators have different periods and definitions. Keep the period and limitation shown with each indicator when comparing them.
- The current Beta does not include winter capabilities. Recent UV describes the 2016–2025 background only; it is not a long-term trend or future projection.
- Recommendations first apply conditions the user explicitly enables, then explain retained candidates and their trade-offs. There are no hidden default thresholds.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ranking of all Chinese cities?
No. The tool covers 50 approved representative cities only. It does not treat them as all Chinese cities and does not produce a fixed 1–50 ranking, composite score, or winner.
How many cities can I compare?
You can compare two to four approved cities at a time. The comparison shows like-for-like indicators, differences, trade-offs, and limits rather than a total score.
Is the data live weather?
No. The material summarizes city-level climate background and historical change. It is not a weather forecast and does not describe a particular neighbourhood or home.
Why do indicators have different time periods?
Data sources and indicators have different complete available periods. Each indicator keeps its own period label; they must not be interpreted as one shared time series.
Can this provide medical, property, or investment advice?
No. The tool provides climate information and explainable trade-offs in a bounded city pool. It does not replace medical, property, investment, or detailed siting decisions.
